Rumored to be a direct descendant of Pocahontas, his connection to Native American heritage fueled his fascination with Native American life. Serving as a field artist for the American Museum of Natural History, he ventured to East Africa in 1926 and 1928, capturing the essence of wild animals through his paintings.
